August 22, 2018 - Wednesday
Breakfast in the hotel. Batumi city tour, visiting some of the main sightseeing places:
Europe Square is surrounded by beautiful belle époque buildings – renovated survivors from Batumi's original heyday plus new buildings in similar style. The square's musical fountains are a magnet for kids on hot summer evenings.
The Medea monument - In Greek mythology, Medea was a daughter of King Aieti, the king of Kolkheti in present day western Georgia. Medea helped Jason to steal the legendary Golden Fleece.
The Astronomical Clock also in Europe Square adorns the restored facade of the former National Bank building. A chime indicates the full hour, a single ring the half-hour. Apart from the time of day, the clock also shows astronomical information – the placement of the sun and the moon, the moon phase, the meridian and the horizon.
Ali & Nino The 7m-high, ethereally moving, metal sculpture Woman and Man, by Tamar Kvesitadze. The two figures represent a Muslim boy, Ali, and a Georgian princess, Nino, from a famous 1937 novel by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said. The tragic story ends with the lovers separated by the invasion of Soviet Russia. The statues begin to move every day at 7 p.m., merging for a short embrace, before leaving each other behind. After 10 minutes the movement is complete.
Alphabet Tower is a 130-meter-high structure The tower symbolizes the uniqueness of the Georgian alphabet and people. The structure combines the design of DNA, in its familiar double helix pattern. Two helix bands rise up the tower holding 33 letters of the Georgian alphabet, each 4 meters tall and made of aluminum.

Petra fortress is located in the village of Tsikhisdziri in the Kobuleti district of Adjara. Built during the 6th century A.D., it held an important strategic position at the crossroads of the route linking Georgia with Iran and Armenia. The fortress is one of the most significant monuments on the entire eastern coast of the Black Sea. Situated on a rocky outcrop beside the shore of the Black Sea, Petra was considered to be an impregnable fortress. Its name originated from the Greek word “Petra” – meaning rock, stone. Visiting ancient capital of Georgia - Mtskheta on the way to Tbilisi: UNESCO Heritage sites: Jvary Monastery – sixth century monastery, stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - A masterpiece of the Early Middle Ages, Svetitskhoveli is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is currently the second largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
